Eduard Bukhanets (also Едуард Олександрович Буханець) was born on 28 August 2006 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He is a Ukrainian filmmaker based in the Netherlands, working across directing, cinematography, color grading, editing, post-production and practical effects. Bukhanets began working in the performing arts in 2023, initially gaining experience as an actor before becoming increasingly involved in camera work and video production. His early theatre work included performing with the United Ukrainian Theatre in the Netherlands. He later became part of the theatre's permanent team, working in video production and contributing as a camera operator to stage productions including Chaos and Golem. In July 2024, Bukhanets began writing his first short film, After Me, entering production the following month with a small independent crew. What was initially intended as a relatively short production developed into an approximately eight-month process, during which he worked as director, writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, colorist and sound designer. The film was completed in March 2025. After Me went on to receive recognition at several international film festivals. Bukhanets was named Best Young Male Filmmaker at Indie Short Fest in Los Angeles and Best First-Time Filmmaker at the American Golden Picture International Film Festival. The film also received Best Drama and Best First Time Director at the Rome International Movie Awards, alongside further festival selections and recognition. Following the film's festival run, Bukhanets joined the Dutch Directors Guild. His second directorial project, The Body, is a dialogue-free horror short produced in the Netherlands. Bukhanets served as director, writer and producer while also contributing to the film's practical special effects and production. The project continued his interest in atmospheric filmmaking and in combining creative direction with hands-on technical work. Alongside his directing work, Bukhanets has continued developing his career in cinematography and post-production, with a particular focus on color grading and image finishing. His multidisciplinary background allows him to move between the creative and technical sides of filmmaking, from the development of a visual concept through production and final post-production. Bukhanets continues to work between independent film, theatre and professional film production in the Netherlands, developing projects characterised by visual storytelling, atmosphere and a hands-on approach to filmmaking.
